NEW! Holiday Gift Guide

If your "spirit of the season" is less than spirited, here are some good tidings: American Mensa's annual holiday gift guide has just been published at http://www.us.mensa.org/giftguide. We've ransacked a few hallowed halls around the Internet and picked out some things that could help make your holidays easier, smarter or just more fun. And, of course, we've included some ideas to help you give the gift of Mensa. So go ahead -- see if you can knock out all of your holiday shopping without leaving your couch!

This gift guide is once again brought to you by the good folks at GEICO, who know a thing or two about saving time and money through your homeowner, vehicle and rental insurance -- and who offer special discounts to American Mensa members. Visit http://www.us.mensa.org/geico for more information.

NEW! Mensa on the Web

Interested in finding your Mensa niche on the Web? American Mensa currently provides and supports many officially recognized Internet communities, including our own Community (www.community.us.mensa.org), Local Group and SIG Web sites, and elists, but there are many, many other unofficial online Mensa-centric groups in all areas of the Internet. So, as part of ongoing efforts to make it easier for members to interact socially and intellectually, a page of links to some of these groups has been published on the Members menu; you can reach it directly at www.us.mensa.org/MensaontheWeb. It's a great way to browse the Internet, find new friends, and get the most out of your Mensa membership. We look forward to seeing you there... and there... and there!

NEW! AML Today online

The first electronic version of AML Today went out to all local and national officers (with email addresses on file) and was opened by 85 percent of recipients. Look for future issues by the 7th of each month.

Did you miss an issue? Visit the AML Today electronic archive in the eNewsletters pages at www.us.mensa.org/enewsletters. In fact, you can sign up for any or all of the enewsletters published by American Mensa and the Mensa Foundation at that location.

NEW! Mensa for Kids

Sponsored by the Mensa Foundation, six additional lesson plans have been posted at www.mensaforkids.org/teachers; you can also access them through the Parent/Teacher Resources section of the Mensa for Kids Web site, www.mensaforkids.org. The new lessons include:

  • Shapes, for Kindergarteners
  • Action Fractions, for 2nd graders
  • Storytelling, for 2nd graders
  • Fabulous Fibonacci and His Nifty Numbers, for 4th graders
  • Screenplay, for 7th graders
  • Magical Musical Tour (literary elements), for 9th/10th graders

Since these plans are designed to be completed with minimal supervision, they serve as independent coursework either in the traditional classroom or outside it. You can view the course materials online and download complete copies to hand to your favorite gifted student(s). Sign up online from the Lesson Plans page to get email alerts when new plans are published.

Smart Buys

American Mensa has teamed up with Amazon.com to create Smart Buys, an online storefront for all things found where Mensa and Amazon intersect. Books licensed by American Mensa and Mensa International? Find 'em here. Mensa favorites, recommended reading about fiftedness and intelligence, and books written by Mensans? Hundreds of books have already been added, with more coming every month. Mind Games winners going back to the inaugural event? If Amazon's got 'em, so do we. And who know what we'll find to add in the future?

Not only are we committed to collecting all this great information into one convenient buying location, but here's the behind-the-scenes fun: A small percentage of each purchase (whether it's in the store or reached elsewhere in Amazon through our store) comes back to American Mensa as non-dues revenue, with no difference to your price paid. So bookmark the store, come do what you do at Amazon amyway, and help support American Mensa!
